Golf Course
The
View Golf Resort Golf Course has frequently been called the most scenic
and challenging nine-hole course in Newfoundland. If you've already
visited, you'll likely agree. If you haven't visited yet, come and see
for yourself.
Course Layout
Our course is a
9-hole par 34 executive style course with a playing time of
approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. It measures 2250 yards from the blue tees
and 1920 yards from the red tees. Although it might seem short at
first, the course design and strategically placed hazards makes it a
challenging course for experienced golfers but not too intimidating for
novice players. Because our tee-times are booked further apart, golfers
find their rounds to be much more relaxed as they are not being rushed
along by the next group.

- This
hole has a medium dogleg to the right, with sand traps near the corner
and around the back and side of the green.
- Try
to drive deep into the open landing area but stay just short of the
bunker near the dogleg. From there you are one or two easy shots to the
green.
- For a birdie opportunity take a chance
and go straight for the corner. If you don’t go out of bounds,
you will have an easy pitch onto the green

- This hole is short and the pin is very
visible, but there is water, shrubbery, and sand traps in the way.
- Try to put all those distractions behind
you and shot for the green anyhow.
- Keep in mind that this hole has a
shallow green and not much backing so sticking the ball on the green is
a bit tricky. If you know how to apply backspin to the ball, now might
be a good time.

- This seems like a straightforward drive
with a bit of sand in front of the green. However, invisible from the
blue tees and painfully visible from the red tees, is a very large area
of shrubbery that eliminates a lot of the suitable landing area.
- Drive just short of the sandtraps or try
to reach this fairly large green. Be careful, drive too long and
you’ll
be in the sand or drive too short and you’ll be in the shrubs.

- This is a long straight fairway, but it
is very narrow.
- Nearly halfway down the fairway there is
a large pond that covers most of the fairway but leaves a strip along
the left side.
- Lay up just short of the pond or play to
the very left-hand side. From there you are two or three decent shots
from the green.
- The last stretch of fairway as slightly
banked from right to left so it is a good idea to stay to the right as
you approach.
- If your approach shot is a long one
consider the safe play of getting closer to the green but not risking a
shot that might land in the deep sand traps. Then an easy chip could
set up a one-putt.
- This green is very long and narrow with
deep bunkers along the left side and rear so be careful.

- Although short in distance, this is a
very tricky hole.
- There is a fairly steep valley
between the tees and the green with a small ravine in the bottom of it.
- The far slope of the valley is quite
steep and directly in front of the green is a very large sand trap.
- The green is slightly shallow and there
is very little backing, so place the ball carefully when you drive for
the green. Again, if you know how to apply backspin, this might be a
good time to use it.

- Both tee decks are up in the hillside so
they are elevated above the very large green.
- There are bunkers along the left side
and rear of the green.
- Remember to adjust your shot to account
for the fact that you are starting so far above the green and therefore
your ball will travel further and be more susceptible to breezes.

- Although you can not see the flag from
the tee, you can drive this one straight down the uphill and rolling
fairway.
- Actually, you can see a distant birch
tree that is just on the right side of the green, so aim slightly left
of that tree.
- Also, don’t drive all the way to the
sand traps, which are in two locations in front of the green.
- Be careful of the deep bunker along the
front of the green. Also be very careful playing along the left edge of
the green or you will have a very tough chip to get back up onto the
green.

- This is a straight and pretty wide-open
fairway with no traps between the tees and green.
- However it is sloped uphill, so you
won’t get as much bounce or roll as you are used to.
- Also, to drive for the green you should
stay as close as possible to the big birch trees on the left border of
the fairway as there is a slight dogleg left.
- There is a big sand trap on the back of
the green and berms along both sides but it’s a straightforward
green,
as long as you aren’t distracted by the amazing ocean view!
